Architecture is the art, science, and style in creating one or more artifacts, which guide the delivery of products and services that are conceptually sound, elegantly designed, value-added developed, and operationally efficient.
An architect leads a multidisciplinary team of professionals to deliver architectural artifacts and products such as buildings, ships, etc. Strictly speaking, there are only two chartered professional architects; namely RIBA and RINA. The building and naval architects accumulated millennium of experiences and knowledge in their respective fields.
Before plunging into Enterprise Architecture, let us explore what does a professional architect do in general.
-
Work with the owner of the architectural artifact (building or ship) on the concept, usage, budget, and time for its delivery.
-
Liaise with local officials on land-use, environmental constraints, and connectivity to infrastructure (e.g. road access, gas, electricity, telecommunications, water supply, and sewage disposal).
-
Consult with surveyors on estate (lot boundaries), land (topology), quantity (bill of materials), and geology (soil conditions).
-
Direct a professional team to prepare architectural (floor, elevation, & site), structural, electrical, sanitary, stationary, mechanical, interior design, landscape, and cabinet drawings.
-
Manage contracts, inspect phased construction work, and approve progress payments.
-
Sign off for the commissioning of the architectural product after obtaining approvals from local authorities for compliance of local by-laws and regulations.
